Social Democratic Party (PSD) MEP Victor Negrescu stated on Tuesday that, at the Congress meeting scheduled on 7 November, he will run for one of the five positions of first vice-president of the party in the team proposed by Sorin Grindeanu.
„Today, Romania needs more courage from its political class, professionalism and a willingness for genuine dialogue with the citizens. There are no providential leaders. There is no monopoly on truth. What exists are strong teams and the art of listening to society’s needs in order to remain united and resilient. Only together can we build the future. After much reflection and many discussions with my colleagues, I have decided to take another step forward and assume greater responsibilities by joining the team led by Sorin Grindeanu, running for one of the five first vice-president positions of the Social Democratic Party. We have known each other for a long time and I appreciate both his achievements in Transport and his openness to differing opinions,” Negrescu wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the PSD Congress in November is „not about persons,” but about a common vision and a Social-Democratic project for Romania.
Victor Negrescu added that the involvement of Claudiu Manda as secretary-general gives him confidence that the Social Democrats will manage to organize better in a new political context full of challenges.
„Despite all the difficulties and a coalition with three right-wing parties, we have shown that we can bring greater balance to the act of governing. Yes, there are political costs. But imagine what it would have been like if the PSD were in opposition. There would have been no brake on austerity policies. Today, through arguments, we manage to steer this government in the right direction. The challenges will continue. However, if we remain united, professional and anchored in our values, we will win not only elections, but also the trust of the people. The congress is not an end in itself. It is a new chapter for the PSD team. For a balanced, strong and united Romania,” he underscored. AGERPRES
