CNA demands that President Dan make ‘media education’ part of National Defense Strategy

Published on

The Vice President of the National Audiovisual Council (CNA), Valentin Jucan, announced on Tuesday that the institution has decided to demand that President Nicusor Dan make ‘media education’ an assumed part of the National Defense Strategy.

„Disinformation is not a simple online phenomenon! It is a silent weapon that does not hit walls – but minds, trust and the cohesion of a nation. Every day, children, young people and adults are exposed to an avalanche of well-targeted lies: bot networks, fake accounts, clone sites, conspiracy theories, communist or fascist nostalgia seductively packaged, criminal dictators presented as saviors of peace”, Jucan said in a Facebook post.

He states that „these mechanisms not only distort reality – they can change elections, weaken institutions and divide an entire country”.

„It is a cynical cognitive war to influence the future of our country. That is why, today, the National Audiovisual Council decided to transmit to the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, the request that ‘media education’ become an assumed part of the National Strategy for the Defense of the Country. It is no longer an option. It is a vital need. ‘Media education’ means protecting our children from manipulation, strengthening society and defending our hard-won democracy. It is the shield that we lack – and that we must build now”, added Valentin Jucan. AGERPRES
