„What solutions does the Commission propose for the EU’s energy preparedness for hot summers, and I am referring in particular to storage and interconnection capacities?” asks Mihai Tudose in a written question to the EC.
Electricity bills are affected this summer not only by the removal of price caps, which was a temporary support measure. High temperatures also have an impact on consumers’ pockets.
„There is a need for better preparation at EU level, from an energy perspective, for hot summers,” says MEP Mihai Tudose, who has called on the European Commission to take action in this regard.
„The heatwave in Europe in June and July 2025 increased daily electricity demand by up to 14% due to the intensive use of air conditioning. According to the Ember energy analysis center, the increased demand, combined with interruptions in the operation of thermal power plants and reductions in the production capacity of nuclear power plants, significantly increased prices, exceeding €400/MWh in Germany and €470/ MWh in Poland,” Mihai Tudose pointed out in his question requesting a written response from the European Commission.
The president of the PSD National Council noted that „this increase occurred even though June saw the highest solar energy production ever recorded in the EU.”
„As heat waves are becoming more intense and frequent from one year to the next, what solutions does the Commission propose for the EU’s energy preparedness for hot summers, and I am referring in particular to storage and interconnection capacities?” reads the question posed by MEP Mihai Tudose.
