Health Minister: Patient injured in Friday’s District 5 explosion, transferred to Austria, in stable condition

The condition of the patient injured in Friday’s explosion in Bucharest’s District 5, who was transferred to Austria, is favourable and he is out of danger, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete said on Wednesday.

According to the minister, the patient was extubated two days ago and is expected to be brought back to Romania on Saturday.

„The patient was extubated two days ago, and on Saturday he will land at Otopeni Airport. His condition is favourable and he is out of any danger. He is returning to Romania for post-critical care and will be transferred to a hospital in the Capital, to a plastic surgery ward,” the minister stated.

Referring to the major burns unit at Floreasca Emergency Hospital, Rogobete said that the number of beds there will be reduced from six to four in order to comply with current regulations.

„The documentation for the rehabilitation of the burns unit was submitted to the Ministry of Health two weeks ago. We are reducing the number of beds from six to four, and the space freed up by the two beds will be reorganised so that the unit meets the required standards, with all the dedicated areas and facilities of a functional burns centre. It will remain a functional burns unit,” the minister explained after attending a health sector conference.

He also mentioned that a dedicated programme will soon begin, funded through non-reimbursable European funds, for the construction of a national tissue centre and a tissue bank, which will most likely be established within the Fundeni Institute grounds. AGERPRES
