The exhibition ‘Light and Shadow – Ferdinand and Marie,’ a project organised to mark 160 years since the birth of King Ferdinand and 150 years since the birth of Queen Marie, will open on Wednesday at 18:00 in the Medieval Spaces of the Cotroceni National Museum.
‘Cotroceni Palace, a place rich in historical significance, becomes through this exhibition a space for rediscovering the royal couple. Beyond their historical role, King Ferdinand and Queen Marie are presented as people and life partners whose story completes and humanises their official portraits. Behind the symbols of the monarchy lie two complex human destinies, whose lives were united by duty and responsibility,’ representatives of the National Cotroceni Museum mentioned.
The curatorial approach offers a balanced perspective on the two personalities and explores the complementarity between the king’s discipline and the queen’s artistic sensibility. Together, these traits form a shared portrait in which light and shadow, reason and emotion intertwine to convey the depth of a relationship and an era, the source added.
The royal couple’s shared passion for flowers serves as the leitmotif of the entire narrative, giving the exhibition a distinctive character, according to the organisers.
The public will be able to view archival documents, correspondence, objects of great patrimonial value from museum collections, visual testimonies and other historical sources that together create a nuanced insight into the personal lives of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie.
The exhibition will be open to visitors from 30 October 2025 to 15 February 2026, Tuesday to Friday, as part of the exhibition tour (from 9:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00) or within the museum’s general tours, both guided and unguided. AGERPRES
