Senate’s Abrudean: Direct current cable project linking Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania-Hungary could be replicated

Digitalisation, high technologies, the agri-food sector, tourism and the defence industry are areas in which the model of cooperation established through the direct current cable project linking Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary could be replicated, said Senate President Mircea Abrudean, who was welcomed by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

During his official visit to Azerbaijan, Abrudean participated on Wednesday in the International Parliamentary Conference marking the 30th anniversary of the country’s Constitution. He underlined that his presence in Baku was a testament to the strategic partnership, friendship and cooperation between the two states.

‘At the meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, I highlighted several important aspects of Romania’s foreign policy, but not before thanking him for the support provided in unblocking and finalising negotiations on the Agreement regarding the Middle Corridor between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Discussions also focused on the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including the signing of a declaration in Washington in the presence of the US President and the initialling of the Agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. I sincerely believe this will help ensure peace and development throughout the region,’ Abrudean wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

According to the Senate President, Romania and Azerbaijan share ‘broad’ opportunities for cooperation, and the importance of interparliamentary ties and collaboration in strengthening bilateral relations should be further consolidated.

‘Projects such as the direct current cable linking Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary for the delivery of renewable energy from Azerbaijan and Central Asia to Europe are an extraordinary example of cooperation that should be replicated in other diverse areas, such as digitalisation, high technologies, the agri-food sector, tourism and the defence industry,’ Abrudean explained.
