Romanians spend almost RON 720 million online for Black Friday 2025 (payment processor)

Over 1.31 million transactions of total value of about RON 720 million were recorded on Friday at the partner merchants that carried out the Black Friday campaigns, the payment processor PayU GPO Romania informed on Monday.

In addition, compared with previous edition, the number of transactions made on saved card accounted for over 64% of payments, up 17%.

The payment processor organised this year on Black Friday a live marathon event in which it analysed all the trends, statistics and consumer behaviour from the perspective of payments, together with 20 invited experts, from key areas of the e-commerce ecosystem in Romania.

Thus, from PayU GPO data, the total value of the traded volumes increased by 9% from the year before, and the highest amount reported exceeded RON 85,000 for products in the eTail category.

In addition, in the golden minute of Black Friday 2025, more than 11,000 transactions were recorded, with the dominant categories being cosmetics, fast-moving consumer goods, children’s products, IT&C and home & deco.

„Black Friday 2025 proves once again that Romanians are looking forward to this day, preparing their budgets in advance for the best offers of the year from retailers. More and more people choose to buy smartly and planned, taking advantage of the extended rates offered by banks and financial partners, but also the convenience of fast payments, with a single click, through saved cards. These trends show an increasing degree of maturity and trust in online commerce. Together with our partners, we have worked intensively so that the shopping experience is fast, safe and pleasant, adapted to the real needs of customers,” according to Elena Gheorghe, country manager PayU GPO Romania.

The average value per transaction was RON 546, three times higher than the average value of the annual transactions. In addition, the average value of the transaction using payment in instalments has also increased to RON 945, twice above the annual average.

Instalment payments accounted for about 35% of the total volume processed, marking an 18% increase from Black Friday 2024.

On Black Friday 2025, 17% of transactions were paid using cards issued outside Romania, 13% more than at the previous edition. The top countries from which payments were processed, by issuing bank, were Lithuania, the United Kingdom and Belgium.

PayU GPO Romania is part of the global PayU GPO group that operates in over 40 countries (EUR 1 =RON 5.08). AGERPRES
