President Nicusor Dan receives the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, who is currently paying an official visit to Bucharest, at the Cotroceni Palace, the Presidential Administration’s head office, on Thursday.

„Welcome,” said the Romanian head of state.

„Thank you for everything that you do for us. This is our first official visit abroad, and we are very happy to carry it out here, to come to our friends, to our brothers. I know that you have also contributed a lot, through all the diplomats from Europe and other countries, to this process (of the Republic Moldova’s accession to the EU – editor’s note) and we thank you very much. It is very important for us, we have a unique opportunity and certainly, with everything that is happening in our region, the war in Ukraine, the European path for us is not just a strategic direction, but a movement of survival and protection, of national security,” said Munteanu, at the meeting with the Romanian president.

The head of the Executive from Chisinau is on his first official foreign visit since taking office.

Later today, he will meet with the presidents of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, and the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, at the Parliament Palace.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will also receive his Moldovan counterpart at the Victoria Palace.

The two prime min isters will have a tete-a-tete meeting, followed by discussions in the plenary session of the two official delegations, at the end of which the two high officials will make joint press statements.

In the afternoon, the Moldovan Prime Minister will be received at the Elisabeta Palace by the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Margareta, and Prince Radu.

According to a Government press release, Ilie Bolojan and Alexandru Munteanu will discuss topics and projects of common interest for the two countries, in the current geostrategic context.

„The visit to Bucharest of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, is also the first foreign visit he has made since taking over the leadership of the Government in Chisinau and takes place only one day before the Republic of Moldova takes over, on November 14, the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the decision-making body of the Council of Europe, a mandate that our neighbuors across the Prut will hold for the next six months,” the Romanian Government informed.
