Industrial output down 1pct January through September (National Institute of Statistics)

Industrial production decreased both as gross series and as series adjusted depending on the number of business days and seasonality, in the first nine months of the year, compared to the similar period in 2024, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Thus, between January 1 and September 30, 2025, industrial output (gross series) decreased by 1%, as a result of the negative results recorded in the manufacturing industry (-1.3%) and the extractive industry (-1%). On the other hand, the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 0.5%.

As adjusted series, industrial production was 0.6% lower, in the reference interval, due to the decreases recorded by the extractive industry (-1%) and the manufacturing industry (-0.8%). In contrast, the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 1%.

According to the same source, compared to September 2024, in the corresponding month of this year, industrial production (gross series) increased by 2.6%, supported by the manufacturing industry (+3.1%). At the opposite side of the scale, the extractive industry saw a drop in production by 0.8%, while the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning saw a decline of 0.1%.

At the same time, industrial production, as adjusted series, was higher in September 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year, by 0.2%, due to the results recorded in the manufacturing industry (+0.5%), while the extractive industry decreased by 1.1%. The production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning remained at the same level, YoY.

INS data reveal that, in September this year, the industrial production (gross series) increased compared to the previous month, by 20.7%, due to the manufacturing industry (+26.7%) and the extractive industry (+0.7%). At the same time, the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning decreased by 6.8%.

Also, industrial production, as adjusted series, increased by 1.1%, month-on-month, on the back of activities in the manufacturing industry (+2.1%), but the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning reported a decrease of 3.2%, and the extractive industry, of 2%.
