Turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased by 1.6% as unadjusted series and by 0.7% as working-day and seasonally adjusted series in the first nine months of this year, compared with the same period of last year, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The evolution of wholesale business, as unadjusted series, was driven by increases recorded in wholesale trade intermediation activities (+11.1%), non-specialised wholesale trade (+10.2%), wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+8.9%), wholesale of non-food consumer goods (+5.7%), and wholesale of information and communication equipment (+1.4%).
Decreases were registered in wholesale of agricultural raw products and live animals (-6.4%), specialised wholesale of other products (-3.9%), and wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (-1.7%).
In September 2025, turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased compared with August 2025, both as unadjusted series (+9.5%) and as working-day and seasonally adjusted seris (+1%).
The advance in turnover was driven by increases in wholesale of information and communication equipment (+37.4%), wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+23.6%), wholesale of non-food consumer goods (+19.6%), non-specialised wholesale trade (+17.6%), wholesale trade intermediation activities (+15.9%), and specialised wholesale of other products (+7.6%).
Conversely, decreases were recorded in wholesale of agricultural raw products and live animals (-10.8%) and in wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (-0.6%).
Compared with September 2024, turnover in wholesale trade increased both as unadjusted series (+5.8%) and as working-day and seasonally adjusted series (+4.2%). Positive developments were recorded in wholesale of agricultural raw products and live animals (+28.8%), wholesale trade intermediation activities (+17.2%), wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+12.8%), non-specialised wholesale trade (+9.6%), wholesale of information and communication equipment (+6.9%), and wholesale of non-food consumer goods (+5.8%).
Decreases were registered in specialised wholesale of other products (-6.8%) and in wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (-2.7%).
