Ciprian Ciucu, the National Liberal Party’s candidate for Bucharest mayor, is the winner of the office with 36.17% of the votes, according to real-time data released by the Permanent Electoral Authority after centralising 1,288 minutes from the total of 1,289 polling stations (99.92%).

Ciucu secured a 14.2% lead over runner-up Anca Alexandrescu – backed by the ‘Justice for Bucharest’ Electoral Alliance. Daniel Baluta of the Social Democratic Party placed third, trailing Ciucu by 15.6%.

The mayoral seat became vacant in May after Nicusor Dan was elected President of Romania. Liberal Stelian Bujduveanu has served as acting mayor since then.

Ciucu’s vision for Bucharest centers on urban regeneration, particularly in the downtown area along Magheru Boulevard, which he aims to transform into a greener, more pedestrian-friendly zone with wider sidewalks. He also expressed plans to attract investors for buildings currently at seismic risk, integrating them into the city’s economic circuit. AGERPRES
