The average net salary in Romania stood at 5,492 lei, in October, up 4.3% compared to the same period last year, with the highest values recorded in information technology service activities (11,810 lei), according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
At the opposite side of the scale were the salaries granted in hotels and restaurants – 3,396 lei.
The average gross salary in October 2025 was 9,152 lei, 74 lei (+0.8%) higher than in September.
According to the same source, during the year there are fluctuations in salary earnings determined mainly by the granting of annual awards and holiday bonuses, especially in the months taken as a basis for comparison (December, March/April). These influence increases or decreases depending on the period in which they are granted, ultimately leading to the blurring of fluctuations in monthly earnings throughout the year.
Compared to September 2025, in October, the current year, in most activities in the economic sector, the level of average net earnings increased as a result of the granting of occasional bonuses, rights in kind and cash aid, amounts from net profit and other funds, but also as a result of higher production achievements or receipts.
Thus, the most significant increases in average net earnings were recorded in the manufacture of computers and electronic and optical products, by 12.9%, respectively in real estate transactions, printing and reproduction of records on media, insurance, reinsurance and pension fund activities (except those in the public social security system), financial brokerage (except for insurance and pension fund activities), with percentages ranging between 4% and 5.5%.
On the other hand, the decreases in average net earnings compared to September 2025 were determined by the granting in the previous month of occasional bonuses, rights in kind and cash aid, amounts from net profit and from other funds (including securities). At the same time, the decrease in average net earnings was determined by production failures or lower receipts (depending on contracts/projects).
INS data reveal that significant decreases in average net earnings were recorded in auxiliary activities for financial intermediation, insurance activities and pension funds (-14.2%), in the extraction of crude oil and natural gas (-13.9%), as well as in services activities related to extraction, the manufacture of coke oven products and products obtained from crude oil processing, the metallurgical industry (between 5.5% and 8.5%).
According to official statistics, in the budgetary sector, increases in average net earnings were reported, in October 2025 vs. September 2025, in education (+2.4%, as a result of hourly payment of teachers), in public administration (+0.8%) and in health and social assistance (+0.2%). AGERPRES
