Liz Truss asked to refuse former prime minister’s £115,000 annual allowance

Liz Truss faces calls to refuse the £115,000-a-year allowance she will be entitled to as Britain’s future former prime minister, DPA reports, Agerpres reads.

The Liberal Democrats believe that the British will be left with a ”bitter taste” if Liz Truss claims the allowance after her short and tumultuous tenure in Downing Street.

The allowance was introduced in 1991 after the resignation of Margaret Thatcher, to support former prime ministers in their public duties after leaving office.

However, Liberal Democrat spokeswoman Christine Jardine said it would be ”unthinkable” for Truss to receive this amount after such a short tenure.
