Former Prime Minister Viorica Dancila considers „unacceptable” the resolution of the Dutch parliament rejecting our country in the Schengen Area and demands a „symmetrical response” from Romania. She talked about joining Schengen on a TV show and puts the approach to the topic on the day of the Dutch vote down to intuition and experience, according to a Facebook post.
„In the Antena 3 CNN studio I wanted to convey a message on the subject of accession to the Schengen area. I reaffirmed on that occasion that it is necessary, at all levels, to intensify efforts and to crystallize a congruent, firm voice, which would clearly convey the fact that Romania is no longer willing to make any kind of compromise regarding Schengen accession, a legitimate right of ours, as a member of the European Union, for which, technically speaking, we meet the conditions of 11 years”, wrote Viorica Dăncilă in a post on Facebook, Thursday evening. She attributes to „intuition” and „experience” the approach to this topic, which was not in the presenter of the show, and she calls the resolution of the Dutch parliament „unacceptable”, demanding a „symmetrical response” from our country.
„About an hour later, the Dutch Parliament adopted a resolution by which, in an absolutely unjustified way, as it has done for years, once again, it practically destroys Romania’s dream of joining the Schengen area. Why did I feel the need to bring up a topic that wasn’t even on the show’s agenda? Intuition? Possible. The experience? Certainly. It is unacceptable and it is vital that we regain our dignity as a state, and that Romania’s decision-makers understand that the time has come for us to send a clear message to unfriendly countries in the sense that we are not buying a legitimate dept, such as access to the Schengen area and starting from this moment we will have a symmetrical response”, the former prime minister also wrote.
