Dutch parliament supports launching special tribunal for Russian crime of aggression in Ukraine

Published on

The lower house of the Dutch parliament approved a proposal to set up a special tribunal in The Hague to prosecute Russian leadership for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, according to Reuters, Agerpres reads.

„Grateful to all members of the Dutch House of Representatives, who supported the establishment of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. Putin and his entourage must face trial for committing this crime. Demand for justice keeps mounting,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted.

The Hague is also home to the International Criminal Court (ICC), which opened an investigation into alleged war crimes in the days after the February 24 Russian invasion, but has no jurisdiction to judge aggression in Ukraine.

Kiev wants the creation of a special or hybrid international court dedicated to the indictment of Russian officials guilty of the invasion, which would complement the work of the ICC.
