Romanian Prime Minister about pension increase: Percentage can be 15% or another figure

Published on

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca told a press conference in western Arad, on Friday, that pensions would be increased by 15 percent or by another figure to cover inflation, starting with 2023, according to Agerpres.

„Mr. President [Klaus Iohannis – ed.n.] linked this percentage to inflation and I affirm that it is necessary to continue to take into account the inflation rate and I believe that pensioners do not deserve to bear the burden of the inflation, which is why the percentage can be 15 percent or it may be another figure. We will take into account all these elements of analysis in the coalition with the budget figures on the table. We need the budget forecast for the year 2023, we need to see what next year’s nominal value of the GDP is and in this way we have to make sure that we come up with decisions that are really supported by the budget and can ensure the offsetting of the increase in prices in foodstuffs, goods, and services,” declared Ciuca.

He stated that a set of measures is needed both in terms of pensions and salaries.
