Increase in trade between Romania and Mexico by 18,8% in the first 8 months of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year

Răzvan Pîrcălăbescu, Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Romanian Embassy in Mexico, announced for ecopoliticnews.com an increase in trade between Romania and Mexico in the first 8 months of 2022 by 18,8% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching a value of 234,65 million EURO. The export of Romanian goods reached the value of 163,30 million EURO in the first 8 months of 2022, increasing by 17,8% compared to the same period of the previous year. Therefore, the import of Mexican goods was at the level of 71,35 million EURO, up 21,17%.

Taking into consideration the point of view of the trade balance, Romania has been benefiting in the first 8 months of this year from a surplus of 91,94 million EURO making Mexico the 20th country that Romania have a trade surplus globally, 14th country outside Europe and the 2nd on the American continent after the USA.

In the first 8 months of 2022, the most important categories of goods exported to Mexico were represented by:

1. Machines and devices, electrical equipment and their parts, which totaled 64.78 million euros;

2. Vehicles, aircraft, vessels and auxiliary transport equipment in the amount of 23.83 million euros;

3. Common metals and articles from common metals, worth 20.52 million euros;

4. Plastic materials, rubber and rubber articles, worth 18.25 million euros;

5. Wood, charcoal and wooden articles, cork and cork works in the amount of 9.26 million euros.

Răzvan Pîrcălăbescu estimates an increase in bilateral commercial relations in the current year and an increase in Romanian Foreign Direct Investments – FDI in Mexico and vice versa. Furthermore, in his opinion the bilateral relations will exceed the same level of 2019, in which their historical maximum was recorded.
