Meeting between Romanian Secretary of State Traian Hristea & Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Costa Rica, Arnoldo André Tinoco

The Secretary of State for Global Affairs and Diplomatic Strategies Traian Hristea had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Costa Rica, Arnoldo André Tinoco, on the sidelines of the participation in the third EU-CELAC Ministerial Meeting (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States ), held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to a press release issued by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In this context, the Romanian Secretary of State expressed the full availability of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the consolidation and development of relations between the two countries, bilaterally, as well as within multilateral forums.

Thus, the MAE official emphasized the need to intensify economic exchanges and sectoral cooperation, in areas of common interest, such as education, agriculture, tourism, cyber security or combating climate change.

At the same time, State Secretary Traian Hristea mentioned the efforts of the Government of Romania in support of Ukraine, as well as the measures adopted by Romania to facilitate the transit of Ukrainian grains through Romanian ports – an important contribution to strengthening food security at the global level.

Both interlocutors highlighted the importance of international solidarity in defending the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.

Romania and Costa Rica will cooperate closely in the Human Rights Council, where they were elected for the 2023-2025 mandate. Equally, Romania’s interest in sharing Costa Rican expertise in the process of joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was reiterated.
