The Ethica Association of Independent Pharmacies drew attention, on Monday, to the lack of antibiotics on the market, especially those for children, and requested the authorities to solve this „serious” situation, according to Agerpres.

„With the start of school and the return of children to communities, superimposed on the cold season, acute respiratory infections are more and more common and the cruel reality is that we have nothing to treat children who need antibiotics. We are talking about concrete cases of children who recover very hard or require hospitalization because common antibiotics, especially syrups or oral suspensions for pediatric use, are not available. It is an extremely serious situation, and we as pharmacists see ourselves powerless to solve it,” said the chairman of the association, Cristina Pavel, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.

„Another product that has been missing in the last period, with a significant impact on people suffering from neurological or psychiatric conditions, is carbamazepine. Even if in the last month the product started to reappear in stocks, unfortunately the quantities are insufficient for the patients’ needs, and many times the pharmacies are conditioned by the purchase of other products to be able to procure carbamazepine,” Pavel added.

„The need for a real reform and public policies in the field of medicines is vital for the public and individual health of each patient,” the organization highlighted.

Among the pediatric drugs that are missing from the market or found in insufficient quantities, especially in the form of syrup or oral suspension, are amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, cefuroxime, cefaclor, cephalexin, clarithromycin, phenoxymethylpenicillin and ibuprofen syrup, it is stated in the quoted statement.
