Romania will host a convention of the General Assembly of the FIFPro European footballers’ unions in May 2023, the Association of Romanian Amateur and Pro Footballers (AFAN) announced on Monday in a press release, Agerpres reports.
„We are constantly striving, together with all FIFPro affiliated unions, to defend the rights of our athletes and correctly represent their interests. We are pleased to announce that Romania has won the right to host the General Assembly of European union, a convention that will take place in May of 2023 and will bring together 37 countries.”
Romania competed against three other countries – Israel, Turkey, and Bosnia and Herzegovina – for the right to host the event, and the FIFPro board designated it the host of the convention by a majority vote.
The decision was taken during a convention of the FIFPro world congress in Uruguay, where AFAN Chairman Emilian Hulubei and AFAN Secretary General Dumitru Costin represented Romania.
The FIFPro General Assembly convention in Montevideo was about involvement and the common desire to develop a strategy that would bring them closer to the objective of improving the working conditions of athletes and promoting players’ rights.
The congress brought together 140 delegates, who represented FIFPro member unions, and players from all over the world.
