State official Paun: The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the pace of innovation, digital transformation

The future in healthcare is shaped up by innovation, where young people have a catalyst role, with the COVID-19 pandemic accelerating the pace of innovation and digital transformation, according to presidential advisor Diana Paun, according to Agerpres.

„Young people are normally the catalysts for new technologies and digital transformation, for inclusive and resilient societies. They have the potential to push things forward, beyond the conventional thinking we have unfortunately been accustomed to. They have the energy, enthusiasm and optimism to search in friendship for solutions to complex challenges. The future in healthcare is shaped up by innovation. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated this pace of innovation and digital transformation in an exceptional way. (…) The crises of the past have proven that innovation is essential for recovery. In a world of increased uncertainty, multi-crisis I would call it, I believe it is more important than ever to prioritise healthcare initiatives. The innovation hub has the potential to put Romania on the map of international healthcare innovation and to offer young people a motivating option to choose a professional path at home,” Paun told a Senate debate on Friday on challenges and solutions related to growth in Romania’s healthcare innovation ecosystem.

According to the presidential adviser, „the expertise of other countries with a tradition of innovation in healthcare and external financial support have the ability to transform the ideas of young people in our country into solutions for improving the state of healthcare.”

„By adapting to the specifics of other countries, these solutions can contribute to global well-being and to building a culture of global innovation. I think the collaborative approach is essential for healthcare innovation to generate positive impact. Innovation hubs create an ideal space where ideas are capitalised on, benefit from expertise, mentoring and funding. Innovation in healthcare knows no geographical limitations, and acting in isolation is not an option. (…) The creation of an innovation ecosystem in Romania is inextricably linked to a greater objective, that of having better connected and more efficient ecosystems at the regional or global level that stimulate co-operation and the generation of innovative solutions, as a contribution to the achievement of the sustainable development goals,” added Paun.
