Economic operators exploit more than 19.4 million cubic metres of wood in 2021

In 2021, economic operators with forestry activity exploited 19.446 million cubic metres in 2021, 1.7pct less than in 2020, according to the data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Agerpres reports.

By types of wood exploited the round wood had the largest share.

In 2021, compared to the previous year, there was a 1.4pct decrease in the volume of round wood recorded, mainly caused by the reduction in the volume of exploited wood, the INS points out.

Of the total volume of round wood, 40pct was represented by coniferous species, 31.7pct by beech, 10.9pct by various hard species, 10.1pct by oak and 7.3pct by various soft species.

A volume of 9.081 million cubic metres of round wood was intended for logs. Of this volume, 54.3pct were coniferous species, 27.9pct beech, 7.2pct oak, 5.5pct various soft species and 5.1pct various hard species.

The second use of round wood in terms of quantity, in a volume of 6.461 million cubic metres, was firewood, of which beech wood represented 39.4pct, softwoods 21.1pct, various hard species 17.5pct, oak 13.6pct and various soft species 8.4pct.

In 2021, 1.323 million cubic metres of round and split wood were delivered to consumers, of which: softwood 46pct, beech 28pct, various soft species 11.1pct, various hard species 8.6pct and oak 6.3pct.

From the total of 15.152 million cubic metres of round wood used in 2021, most of it was sold domestically, followed by wood processed by economic operators in their own sections, wood used for own consumption and round wood sold that was exported.

The largest volume of round wood used in 2021 was that of logs (50.7pct). Firewood represented 36.9pct, round and split wood 7.5 and other types of round wood 4.9pct.

Of the total volume of round wood used by economic operators, hardwood wood represented 59.7pct and resinous wood 40.3pct. Of the total round wood used from deciduous species, 92.3pct represented domestic sales, 6.1pct wood processed in own sections, 1.3pct own consumption and 0.3pct direct sales to export, and of the volume of round resinous wood used, 80.1pct was wood sold domestically, 18.8pct wood processed in own sections, 0.7pct direct export sales and 0.4pct own consumption by operators economic.
