The Minister of Culture, Lucian Romascanu, proposes the creation of a fund for culture at the European level, which would ensure the source of financing for the restoration of cultural objectives, according to Agerpres.
He stated, on Friday, in Dorohoi, during a meeting with the heads of the cultural institutions in Botosani county, that the respective fund would be financed by the arms traders and producers.
„We found money for the pandemic, billions, for the financial crisis of 2009-2010, there were 700 billion for helping Ukraine, which is normal… We never found money for culture and we said let’s make a European cultural fund, to be fueled by all arms traders and manufacturers, with the simple motivation that anywhere in this world, where a bullet is fired, it can surely hit a statue or a painting. And it seems normal to me that if you keep giving money, … funds were made, billions, now for energy… Let’s also take culture, which is the most important, into consideration, because – in Churchill’s words – ‘If we don’t have it, what are we fighting for anyways?’. They received with great openness this idea and if we manage to create a European cultural fund, and I hope we do, then we will have a place to draw more money for restoration and preservation,” stated Romascanu.
The Minister added that this topic was discussed with the general secretary of the Council of Europe and will be discussed, until the end of November, with the European commissioners.
