The General Staff of Defense is organizing, the Romanian Military Thinking international conference, with the theme „Dynamics of security architecture in the extended area of the Black Sea”, in the context the conflict in Ukraine and the new NATO Strategic Concept, from Tuesday to Thursday, at the Palace of the National Military Club in Bucharest, the Defense Ministry (MApN) informs, Agerpres reports.

Among the speakers announced by the organizers are the Deputy General Secretary of NATO, Mircea Geoana, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, and the chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy in Bucharest, David Muniz.

Through the theme proposed this year, the fourth edition of the conference seeks to achieve constructive debates regarding the current challenges in the Black Sea Region, considering that the global and, above all, regional security paradigm changed dramatically after February 24, the day in which the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine.

Within the four sections, five expert-level debates will be organized, starting from the following topics: „Consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine for the extended Black Sea Area”, „The future of NATO: Deterrence and defense in the new strategic context”, „Conflict armed on NATO’s eastern border: lessons identified”, „Investments in security and defense, at the confluence of the EU Strategic Compass and the NATO Strategic Concept”, „In rapid steps towards a new world characterized by rivalry. NATO’s eastern flank and relations with Russia in the future”, „The implications of global competition on security”.

The conference will be opened by the Chief of Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, and among the foreign experts who will be present at the conference are Lieutenant General (ret.) Ben Hodges – former commander of the US Army in Europe and Phillip Petersen – president of New Generation Warfare Center, USA.

In total, the event will be attended by approximately 60 specialists with recognized expertise in the field of security from the country and abroad, representatives of the categories of forces, military and civilian educational institutions, collaborators of the Romanian Military Thinking magazine, researchers, specialists and military experts and from other institutions belonging to the national defense system, public order and national security, students, masters and doctoral students.
