Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca declared on Tuesday at the headquarters of the National Liberal Party (PNL) that he is optimistic about Romania being admitted to the Schengen zone, showing that the Romanian government will keep up the dialogue with each of the countries that still want to clarify certain aspects, Agerpres reports.
„We have offered openness and availability for clarifying everything necessary, so that those who still have certain doubts be able to put them at rest and cast an open vote for Romania’s Schengen accession. In all the bilateral meetings we had with our EU counterparts or with the technical staff of the Schengen countries, we discussed all these aspects and the progress made by our country, progress that is proven by everything that happened in recent years, by everything that happened from February until now, when Romania did very well in managing the situation at its non-EU border – which is no small border at all, as it measures approximately 2,500 kilometers. I believe that thanks to the results that were communicated following the technical fact-finding missions, we can say that we are optimistic about everything this final step means,” Prime Minister and PNL Chairman Nicolae Ciuca said.
The Premier added that he is highly confident that the next report regarding Romania’s Cooperation and Verification Mechanism will be a positive one.
„I think that this report will be a sign of recognition of the fact that our country has taken important steps and has aligned with the EU states, so that from now on we will only have to discuss the rule of law general verification mechanism, and I am very optimistic that we will have a positive report,” said the head of the government.
