JusMin Predoiu: Leaders in the judicial system created panic through rumors related to retirement of magistrates

Published on

Justice minister Catalin Predoiu accused, on Wednesday, leaders of the judicial system of creating panic by spreading rumors regarding the modification of the retirement conditions of magistrates, giving assurances that the future bill of the Ministry of Labor, which has not been drawn up yet, will respect the status of the independence of the magistrates, according to Agerpres.

The minister of justice admits that panic has set in the judicial system, but says that this was not due to the Government.

„The Government was very clear, both through the voice of the minister of labor and through the voice of the Prime Minister and through my voice: it will not be a legislative instrument promoted overnight, it will not take the system by surprise, the status of the magistrates’ independence will not be violated and they know very well what this means, because they are lawyers by profession and they know very well what elements outline the status of independence of the magistrate,” argued Catalin Predoiu.

According to the minister, this panic concerning the modification of the retirement conditions of the magistrates was triggered by rumors of some leaders in the judicial system.

„Therefore, my further message to the magistrates is to wait for the debate on the draft law that will be drawn up by the Ministry of Labor, and then they will talk and draw conclusions. For now, this draft does not exist”, the minister of justice emphasized.

„I will not comment on this, other than that: the status of the magistrate is respected”, said minister Predoiu.
