Romanian Government transposes EU Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources

Published on

The Emergency Ordinance for the completion of the legal framework promoting the use of energy from renewable sources, recently adopted by the Government, transposes Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, the Ministry of Energy mentions, according to Agerpres.

„For the correct information of the public, through the Emergency Ordinance for the completion of the legal framework promoting the use of energy from renewable sources, as well as for the amendment and completion of some normative acts, which was adopted on November 29, the Government of Romania transposed Directive ( EU) 2018/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2018 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (recast),” the press release mentions.

According to the quoted source, the amendments were necessary taking into account that Romania risks entering into infringement proceedings (the risk of referral to the Court of Justice of the European Union in case 2021/0333).

Thus, through Directive (EU) 2018/2001, a mandatory objective was established at the European Union level to pursue a share of at least 32pct of energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption, an objective for the fulfillment of which it is necessary to further encourage the development of energy production technologies from renewable sources and, implicitly, providing stability and predictability to investors in the area.

Furthermore, the Emergency Ordinance comes with a series of legislative clarifications, precisely to encourage this type of investments.

The representatives of the Energy Ministry bring to mind that the Government’s Emergency Ordinance can be amended in Romania’s Parliament, by following the parliamentary procedures.
