Ukraine intends to ask for Russia’s exclusion from the UN Security Council on Monday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said, quoted by France Presse and Agerpres.
„Tomorrow (Monday) we will officially express our position. We have a very simple question: does Russia have the right to remain a permanent member of the UN Security Council and to be in the UN?” he said, speaking during a televised marathon national on Christmas night.
„We have a convincing and motivated answer: no, it doesn’t.”
Kuleba pointed out that the issue of Russia’s permanent seat in the UN Security Council – also held by the United States, Great Britain, France and China – is already being discussed in diplomatic circles.
Stating that this matter has not yet been mentioned in the press conferences and public statements of the state and government leaders, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy emphasized that „at a lower level, people are already asking what Russia should become in order not to represent a threat to peace and security”.
