Jens Stoltenberg: It is dangerous to underestimate Russia

Published on

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, warned on Thursday that it is dangerous to underestimate Russia and the ambitions of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the context of the war in Ukraine, Reuters reports, Agerpres reads.

(The Russians) „have shown a great willingness to tolerate loss and suffering,” Stoltenberg told a business conference in Norway. „We have no indications that President Putin has changed his plans and objectives in Ukraine. So it is dangerous to underestimate Russia”, concluded the NATO Secretary General.

Jens Stoltenberg emphasized, in an interview given to the BBC station on Sunday, that the NATO states must increase their production of weapons and ammunition to further support the Ukrainian army against Russia.

NATO’s Military Committee will have a meeting on January 18 and 19 in Brussels to analyze the evolution of the war started last February by Russia against Ukraine, as well as to discuss other „issues of strategic importance”.
