Ukraine received over $32 billion in foreign aid in 2022

Ukraine received the equivalent of more than 32 billion dollars in aid and loans from abroad during the past year, after the Russian invasion at the end of February, DPA informs, Agerpres reads.

About 40% of this amount came from the US, the Ukrainian Central Bank said on Friday evening. Just under 25% came from the EU, and about 8% from the International Monetary Fund. Germany alone contributed $1.6 billion, according to the statement. The total aid is equivalent to about 16% of Ukraine’s pre-war economic output.

However, Ukraine’s gross domestic product will drop by more than 30% in 2022 due to the war, according to estimates by the Ministry of Economy in Kyiv. Russia occupied about 18% of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean peninsula on the Black Sea, which was annexed in 2014. Ukraine is largely dependent on foreign aid, both financial and military, DPA notes.
