MTV Uutisten poll: More opponents than supporters for a NATO base in Finland

The establishment of a permanent NATO base in Finland arouses more opposition than support among citizens, according to a poll cited on Monday by national television YLE and local channel MTV, which notes that 48 percent of respondents oppose the idea and 39 percent support the ideam, Agerpres reports.

According to the survey carried out by the research company Taloustutkimus on behalf of the news service of the MTV channel, MTV Uutiset, 48% of Finns were against, while 39% are in favor of a permanent base of the military alliance in Finland. Another 13% found it difficult to answer.

At the same time, 49% of those surveyed agreed with the intensification of Finland’s activity in international military operations and activities of the bloc, in addition to protecting their country. For their part, 42% of respondents said that Finland should be concerned only with its own security.

The survey was carried out between December 27 and January 4 by telephone interview and was carried out on a representative sample of 1009 people between the ages of 18 and 79. The margin of error is plus/minus three percentage points.
