Republicans who control the House of Representatives of the United States Congress voted to begin an investigation into what they accuse of being the „weaponization” of the federal government by Democratic President Joe Biden, Reuters reports, Agerpres reads.
Republicans have vowed to use their new majority in the House against the Justice Department, FBI and other federal agencies investigating former President Donald Trump and his supporters who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The new ‘Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government’ would open a broad investigation into the Democratic Biden administration, which Republicans accuse of using the FBI as a weapon against Trump.
Republicans will also investigate allegations that the Biden administration pressured big tech companies to censor views contrary to White House policy.
The subcommittee will investigate how the executive branch works with the private sector, non-profit groups and other agencies „to facilitate actions against” American citizens.
‘We have to get down to business now. We must expose the abuses committed by the unelected and unaccountable federal bureaucracy,’ said Republican James Comer, head of the Oversight Committee, in a speech from the floor of the House.
Among the federal agencies targeted are those investigating Trump’s attempt to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election and his alleged violation of the classified documents law, investigations denounced by the former president as a „witch hunt.”
The White House said Monday that Biden’s personal lawyers found classified documents dating back to when he was vice president in a private office at a Washington think tank affiliated with the current president.
