„European integration is our country’s project which, once achieved, will ensure peace, the economic modernization of the country and the increase of people’s standard of living”, declared the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, during a meeting of the National Commission for European Integration (CNIE), at which the remaining European conditions to be implemented were discussed, reports the portal Deschide.md, according to Agerpres.
Maia Sandu set the task for the CNIE to put into practice by March the remaining measures to fulfill the nine conditions assumed by the Republic of Moldova to obtain the status of a candidate country for accession, according to a press release from the presidency in Chisinau.
Of the 35 actions that were to be implemented by the end of 2022, 16 have been implemented, and nine are in the final stage. Among the actions carried out is the adoption by the parliament of the new Electoral Code, which entered into force on January 1st of this year. In the same way, the government adopted the Regulation on low-value public procurements.
Among the actions that are in the finalization phase are the extraordinary evaluation of the candidates for the Superior Council of Magistrates and the Superior Council of Prosecutors (pre-vetting); clarifying the competences of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Center in terms of combating grand corruption.
The following is the promotion of a package of normative acts to eliminate the influence of oligarchs from the political, economic and media spheres, one of the recommendations of the European Commission from June 2022.
Maia Sandu insisted that the remaining measures be completed by the end of March, stressing that it is necessary for all the responsible institutions to accelerate efforts to implement the Action Plan, according to the cited portal.
