The interim President of the Senate, Alina Gorghiu, on Tuesday sent a message on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy, showing that joining the OECD and the Schengen Zone are the strategic priorities of our country, while increasing the country’s role within the EU and NATO are the pillars of Romania’s international action, according to Agerpres.

She underscored the importance of continuing efforts to strengthen relations with EU and NATO member states, with neighbouring countries, with strategic partners and external actors who share similar visions with our country in order to defend common strategic interests.

„We must – and I say must – take advantage of this favourable context for Romania. Increasing the profile and role of our country within the EU, respectively the North Atlantic Alliance and strengthening the strategic partnership with the USA are the pillars of Romania’s action internationally. For Romania, joining The OECD and the Schengen Zone are the strategic priorities and I trust that you will remain firmly committed to their successful achievement, as well as to the achievement of our country’s objectives bilaterally, in multilateral formats such as the UN and OSCE, at the European and Euro-Atlantic level,” she said.

Alina Gorghiu insisted that Romania is „a reliable and predictable partner, a dynamic vector of stability and prosperity in its region,” an actor that actively participates in promoting the strategic relevance of the Black Sea and in ensuring Euro-Atlantic security. At the same time, the summit in Madrid took „historic decisions in support of the strengthening of security and defence on NATO’s Eastern Flank” and in the Black Sea region, objectives pursued and actively promoted by Romania, Gorghiu mentioned.

„Romania has acted with determination at the political, diplomatic and economic level and has obtained tangible, concrete results for the recognition of the strategic relevance of the Black Sea area for Euro-Atlantic security. NATO’s new Strategic Concept unequivocally confirms, for the first time in a programmatic document Allied, the importance of the Black Sea as a strategic area of interest for the Euro-Atlantic community, ensuring an unprecedented visibility of the region we are part of,” she added.

The interim president of the Senate congratulated the members of the Romanian diplomatic and consular corps for the fact that, despite the challenges of recent years, they continue to remain dedicated to the goal of promoting Romania’s values and objectives.

„We are witnessing profound transformations of the international security environment, marked by a wide spectrum of tensions and risks, unpredictable developments and a systemic competition of assertive powers and authoritarian regimes. The current threats to the stability and predictability of the international system are multidimensional. The biggest threat to global order, peace, security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic space remains the brutal, unjustified war waged by Russia against Ukraine,” she highlighted.

According to the President of the Senate, parliamentary diplomacy has an important role in achieving foreign policy objectives and deepening relations with other states. The most recent example in this respect is represented by the joint meeting of the Parliaments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, a political event that proves the solidity of the relationship between the two countries, she added.
