According to Reuters, Washington has sanctioned both the Revolutionary Guard Corps Cooperative Foundation and several senior Iranian officials. The US Treasury Department communicated that the foundation is an economic conglomerate established by high-ranking officials, with the aim of managing investments.

On Monday, the EU decided on measures against four commanders of the Revolutionary Guards and twelve units of this elite military body of the Islamic regime in Tehran, as well as the Iranian Minister of Youth and Sports, Hamid Sajjadi Hazaveh. The armed forces are accused of repressing anti-government demonstrations and violating human rights, and the minister – of pressuring the athletes, states the Official Journal of the Union, according to AFP.

The United Kingdom has sanctioned several Iranian officials, including Ahmad Fazelian, Iran’s deputy attorney general, with an access ban and asset freeze, in response to the „politically motivated” execution of a former Tehran defense ministry official, Alireza Akbari. 61-year-old British-Iranian citizen hanged on January 14 as a spy.
