The deposits of non-government resident customers were 3.6 percent up in December 2022 from the previous month, to RON 513.288 billion, compared to December 2021, the advance was 7.1 percent (-8 percent in real terms), the National Bank of Romania (BNR) informs in a release, according to Agerpres.
RON-denominated deposits of residents, accounting for 65.8 percent of the total deposits of non-government customers, increased 5.6 percent from November 2022 to RON 337.975 billion and 8.5 percent (-6.7 percent in real terms) YoY.
RON-denominated household deposits rose 6.2 percent to RON 178.452 billion from November 2022, and were 8.1 percent higher (-7.1 percent in real terms) on a YoY basis.
RON-denominated deposits of other sectors (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) advanced by 4.9 percent to RON 159.222 billion compared to November 2022, and were 9 percent higher (-6.4 percent in real terms) from the year-ago level.
Forex-denominated deposits of residents expressed in RON (at 34.2 percent of the total deposits of non-government customers) dipped 0.02 percent from the previous month to RON 175.312 billion (when expressed in EUR, forex deposits dropped 0.6 percent to EUR 35.435 billion). Compared to December 2021, the amount was 4.4 percent higher expressed in RON and 4.5 percent up when expressed in EUR.
Forex deposits of households advanced month on month 0.8 percent when expressed in domestic currency to RON 124.336 billion (when expressed in EUR, the advance was 0.2 percent, to EUR 25.131 billion). The increase from the year-ago level was 4.6 percent when expressed in RON (the advance for the amount expressed in EUR was similar).
Forex-denominated deposits of other sectors went down 2 percent from the previous month to RON 50.976 billion when expressed in RON (when expressed in EUR, the decrease was 2.5 percent, to EUR 10.303 billion). YoY, the amount was 4 percent up when expressed in RON (the advance for the amount expressed in EUR was similar).
