3,249 people suffers work-related accidents nine months into 2022, 79 die

As many as 3,249 people in Romania suffered work accidents in the first nine months of 2022, down 527 from the same period of 2021, and 79 of them lost their lives as against 150 in the first 9 months of 2021, according to data published by the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity (MMSS), Agerpres informs.

In the same period, there were nine collective work accidents involving 35 people, seven of whom died.

Most of the work-related accidents January-September 2022 were in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles – 317 injured (9.8% of the total); building construction – 191 injured (5.9% of the total); land transport and transport via pipelines – 176 injured (5.4% of the total); motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers manufacturing – 138 injured (4.2% of the total); human health activities – 129 injured (4% of the total); wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles – 117 injured (3.6% of the total).

Most of the fatal work-related accidents in the first nine months of 2022 were reported in building construction – 15 (19% of the total number of fatalities); civil engineering activities – 11 (13.9% of the total); forestry and logging – 7 (8.9% of the total), and land transport and transport via pipelines – 6 (7.6% of the total).

People aged between 50 and 60 years made up the highest proportion of the injured persons in this period, at 28.4% of the total.
