Republic Day is a public holiday in India where the country marks and celebrates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950. This replaced the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India, thus turning the nation into a republic separate from British Raj. The constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950. 26 January was chosen as the date for Republic Day as it was on that day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress.
On this occasion, the Ambassador of India to Romania, H.E. Rahul Shrivastava, sent a message to the people of India, but also for Romanians.
„On the 26th of January we will be celebrating the Republic Day of India and this year is an important year for India and Romania because we will also be marking the 75th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between India and Romania.
For the last 75 years we have had very good relations in all the spheres, such as political, commercial, cultural, consular, education and in all other areas. In the last few years our relationship has been becoming more intense and we have moved from strong political relations to even strategic areas such as defense, nuclear energy and space.
Also, this year, I would want to convey my best wishes to all of my Romanian friends because in the 2 and a half years that I’ve been here, I’ve got a lot of cooperation with everyone and we have had many events organized by the Embassy. For instance, I would say in the last 2 years we organized about one hundred cultural events to promote bilateral relation between India and Romania. In all this I have got cooperation not just from the institutions in Bucharest, but from all over Romania.
I would also like to convey good health and prosperity to all the people of Romania and at the same time I would like to convey that we should keep on cultivating the great friendship that we have developed between our two countries.
Thank you”, H.E. Rahul Shrivastava said for ecopoliticnews.com.
