U.S. issues another warning of possible terrorist attacks in Turkey

Published on

The United States Embassy in Ankara issued a new warning to American citizens on Monday regarding the possibility of terrorist attacks in Turkey, Reuters reports, Agerpres reads.

The most likely targets could be churches, synagogues and diplomatic missions in Istanbul. It is the second time that the embassy has made such an announcement in the last four days, after the incidents in Sweden, Holland and Denmark during which the Koran was burned.

The updated security alert announces „possible imminent retaliatory attacks by terrorists” in areas frequented by Westerners, particularly Istanbul’s Beyoglu, Galata, Taksim and Istiklal districts.

The embassy says the Turkish authorities are investigating the matter. On Friday, several diplomatic missions in Ankara, including those of Germany, France and Italy, issued similar alerts.

On Saturday, Turkey warned its citizens that „Islamophobic, xenophobic and racist attacks” could follow in the US and Europe.
