Almost 70 percent of Romanians spend a maximum of 25 euros per month on education, while 7 percent prefer to use free learning resources, found a survey commissioned by Upriserz, an online education platform dedicated to entrepreneurs and professionals in the labor market, according to Agerpres.
According to data published on Wednesday, only one in ten Romanians allocates large budgets for education, giving out between 75 euros and 167 euros per month for such activities.
In general, a Romanian spends approximately 4.5 hours a week on average for learning activities (reading, participating in courses, events or webinars, podcasts) or for getting informed on various topics of interest. The categories to dedicate the longest time for such activities are young people (more than 7 hours/week), as well as seniors (almost 6 hours/week).
Employees spend about four hours a week learning.
According to the survey, more than half (52 percent) of the respondents consider that learning should be a lifelong activity, while one in three respondents (33 percent) considers that learning takes place at the beginning of life, in childhood or adolescence.
By age category, Gen Z youth (aged 21 – 25) are more inclined to believe that learning is specific to childhood and youth, while the adults of Generation X and Baby Boomers tend to say that learning takes place throughout life. Moreover, Millennials and Gen X devote on average approximately four hours per week to learning, being the least willing to allocate time to this activity.
The survey found that the Covid-19 pandemic had a positive effect on learning habits, as three out of ten people stated that they allocated more time to personal and professional development during this period.
The survey was conducted by market research company MKOR for the Upriserz course platform on a representative sample of 1,066 respondents from urban and rural areas, aged between 21 and 65.
Upriserz is the largest online education platform in Romania; launched in March 2019, it is dedicated to entrepreneurs and professionals in the labor market, with subscription-based access. The company has grown by over 400 percent since its launch and recorded sales of 3.7 million euros in 2021.
