US Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s representatives visit Romania’s Department for Emergency Situations

The head of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), Raed Arafat, received a visit on Thursday from a delegation made up of representatives of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) within the Embassy of the United States of America in Bucharest, according to Agerpres.

According to a release posted on the DSU Facebook page, during the meeting, Raed Arafat spoke about the integrated emergency system in Romania, about the ability of this system to react and respond quickly in extreme situations and, at the same time, its ability to face some complex situations.

The state-of-the-art equipment available to the rescuers, purchased through non-reimbursable European funds, but also the training of the intervention personnel and the population were other points of interest of the discussion.

Raed Arafat mentioned the various agreements, partnerships or memoranda of understanding signed with countries from the European Union and with countries outside the European space, in the field of emergency management, but also of the aid offered by Romania to countries in situations where the life of communities is in danger, examples being the help offered to Greece and France in limiting the spread of wildfires.

Also, the close connection with civil protection was highlighted, the excellent civil-military cooperation resulting from various support missions, but also through the prism of exercises adapted to several types of disasters.

During the discussions, the current situation found at the borders of the country, the actions taken by the state institutions with a role in managing the situation in Ukraine, the humanitarian aid and the specific support missions offered by Romania, as well as the actions carried out within the close collaboration between governmental institutions and civil society.
