Hungary supports Romania’s accession to the Schengen Zone, said on Wednesday the Hungarian President, Katalin Novak, who is currently paying an official visit to Bucharest, according to Agerpres.
The clarifications were made during a press conference held together with President Klaus Iohannis, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
„Hungary supports Romania’s accession to the Schengen Zone, and Romania can count on Hungary’s support in this regard,” stated Katalin Novak.
She mentioned that she also addressed, together with President Iohannis, the situation of Hungarians in Romania, noting that they are represented at the highest level, in the context in which the UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania) is now part of the Government.
„I told Mr. President that Hungary is actually a nation of solidarity and we are happy to see that the Hungarians from Transylvania are represented at the highest level, with the UDMR being part of the Government. We are happy to see this and know that the Hungarian citizens of Romania are also taken care of in Romania. I discussed this with Mr. President. Summarizing, I trust that we can continue this collaboration, this pragmatic dialogue for the future, perhaps soonest in Budapest and at other international forums,” said Katalin Novak.
At the same time, she underscored that it is in the interest of Hungary and Poland to receive the „due European funds,” necessary to increase energy independence.
„I also spoke about what the President emphasized, that it is our common interest to obtain an agreement between the European Union and Hungary regarding the resources due to Hungary. I would extend this to Poland as well. It is also our interest that Poland receives the resources, the appropriate European funds, which are necessary to increase our energy independence, respectively to pass this period full of challenges as best as possible and for Europe to strengthen itself, to strengthen itself in this sense,” mentioned Katalin Novak.
