Romania to ensure transport to Turkey of temporary accommodation products from rescEU stockpile hosted on its territory

Published on

Under a decision adopted on Friday by the National Emergency Management Committee, Romania will ensure as part of the international assistance provided to Turkey the transport to the quake-ravaged country of several types of temporary accommodation products from the rescEU stockpile hosted on its territory as part of the Romanian ShelterCapacity (RO-Shelt) project, according to Agerpres.

A government statement shows that the respective decision was approved in response to the major earthquake produced on February 6, 2023 on the territory of the Republic of Turkey and taking note of the request addressed to Romania by the European Commission through the European Civil Protection Mechanism (ECHO-ERCC), to dispatch to Turkey from the rescEU reserve located in Romania several types of shelter products, given the responsibilities of our country as part of the Romanian ShelterCapacity (RO-Shelt) project.

The newly adopted decision also stipulates that the General Emergency Management Inspectorate (IGSU), through its subordinate units, shall provide support for loading and transporting the products from the storage place to the nearest stations of the National Freight Railway Company ‘CFR Marfa’.

Also, CFR Marfa will ensure the takeover and transport of the products to the Republic of Turkey via Bulgaria.

The National Defence Ministry will ensure the transport of IGSU specialized personnel, who will train at the destination the personnel of the Turkish civil protection authorities with the commissioning/installation of the equipment.

The government mentions that Romanian ShelterCapacity (RO-Shelt) is a European Commission initiative aimed at creating a rescEU temporary shelter capacity ready for deployment during missions conducted as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
