Romanian Foreign Minister intends to recommend separate set of sanctions for attempts to destabilize Rep. of Moldova by Russia

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu said on Monday, before the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, that he will recommend the proposal for the creation of a separate set of sanctions for the attempts to destabilize the Republic Moldova by Russia, according to Agerpres.

„We have a new government in Chisinau, a government deeply dedicated to the country’s reforms and to European integration. At the same time we saw, as the President of the Republic of Moldova said, the disclosure of plans for the destabilization of the country by Russia. I believe it is extremely important for the European Union to convey today, through the foreign ministers, a strong message of support for the resilience and security of the Republic of Moldova,” said the head of Romanian diplomacy.

The Foreign minister pointed out that he will recommend „for reflection and legal analysis the proposal to create a separate set of sanctions for the attempts to destabilize the Republic of Moldova, its constitutional order and the rule of law”.

„At the same time, I believe it is very important that the Council should convey today its firm support regarding the establishment of a new civil mission in the Republic of Moldova, in continuation of the aid regarding the interconnectivity related to the electricity networks, with the EU, through Romania, and, at the same time in terms of the support of the Republic of Moldova’s European integration perspective,” said Bogdan Aurescu.

The Romanian minister spoke of the need to support the neighboring country through grants and mentioned the Moldova Support Platform created by Romania, Germany and France in this sense.
