The minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, will participate on Thursday and Friday in the events of the United Nations Organization in New York to mark one year since the beginning of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) in a statement sent to Agerpres.

On Thursday, minister Bogdan Aurescu will support the national intervention within the 11th Special Emergency Session of the UN General Assembly, gathered in order to adopt the resolution on ensuring a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine, a resolution that our country co-sponsors.

Also, the foreign minister will take the floor during Friday’s ministerial-level debate of the UN Security Council, on the subject of Ukraine.

On the sidelines of the event, minister Bogdan Aurescu will participate in an informal work session organized by the Maltese Presidency of the Security Council, on Thursday. The discussion will provide „a framework for analyzing the evolution of the conflict in Ukraine and the next stages, at a multilateral level, which will continue to ensure the widest possible support for Ukraine”.

Also, on Friday, the head of Romanian diplomacy will participate in the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in a consolidated format, in Vienna, with the online participation of several foreign ministers present in New York, being convened by the Presidency-in-Exercise of OSCE, secured by North Macedonia, to mark one year since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

The Romanian chief of diplomacy will present to the representatives of the states gathered in New York the efforts made by our country in support of the more than 3.6 million Ukrainian refugees who crossed the Romanian border and for the transit of approximately 13 million tons of grain, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

The Foreign minister will firmly reaffirm the support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as Romania’s commitment to actively contribute to international peace and security. At the same time, it will highlight the imperative for the Russian Federation, a permanent member state of the UN Security Council, to immediately and unconditionally stop the aggression against Ukraine and to withdraw its troops and equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine, within its internationally recognized borders.

On this occasion, he will highlight Romania’s participation, actively and firmly, in all diplomatic efforts at the multilateral level to condemn this aggression, including in the field of international justice, to bring to justice those guilty of the crimes committed in Ukraine.
