As many as 3,123 businesses suspend their activity over Jan – Feb 2023

As many as 3,123 companies suspended their activity in the first two months of 2023, up by 26.69 percent from the same period of 2022, shows data released by the National Companies Registry Office (ONRC), write Agerpres.

Most companies that put their business on hold in the reporting period were from Bucharest, specifically 403 (by 75.98 pct more compared to the year-ago period). Next by the same token were the counties of Cluj with 184 companies (+75.24 pct), Brasov with 140 companies (+44.33 pct), Maramures with 123 companies (+123.64 pct), and Timis with 122 companies (+19.61 pct).

At the opposite end, the fewest business suspensions over January – February 2023 were recorded in the counties of Giurgiu (17, down 32 pct YoY), Tulcea (20, up 42.86 pct YoY), Braila (22, down 4.35 pct YoY), Covasna (23, up 53.33 pct), and Gorj (24, up 20 pct YoY).

By business areas, the highest number of suspensions was reported in wholesale and retail trade, as well as in the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles: 807 (+8.32 pct); professional, scientific and technical activities: 317 (+40.89 pct); and IT and communications – 302 (+101.33 pct).

As many as 1,455 companies suspended their activity in February, most of them in Bucharest (191) and in the counties of Cluj (113), Brasov (57) and Maramures (55).
