Several migrants from Syria and Iraq have been apprehended on Friday, while attempting to exit the country illegally, hiding in a truck loaded with wine bottles, which were to be delivered in Germany by a Bulgarian transport company, write Agerpres.
The truck was checked at the Nadlac I Border Crossing Point (PTF), and the Bulgarian driver (aged 31) stated that he is transporting vans with wine bottles on Bulgaria – Germany route.
„Based on the risk profile a thorough check was conducted over the means of transportation, following which the border policemen discovered, in the cargo compartment, 14 foreign citizens, hidden among the goods transported. The persons in question were taken to the Border Police headquarters for investigation. Within the checks, our colleagues established that the persons are citizens from Syria and Iraq,” spokesperson of the Arad Border Police Andrei Dinca stated.
The driver has been placed under investigation for migrant trafficking, while the clandestine travelers are under investigations for fraudulent attempt to cross the state border.
