Romania’s natural population growth remained negative in April this year, at minus 8,902 people, according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), write Agerpres.
In April 2023, 10,708 children were born, 1,629 fewer than in March 2023. The number of deaths recorded was 19,610 (10,139 men and 9,471 women), 1,781 fewer deaths (958 men and 823 women) than in March 2023.
The number of deaths in children under 1 year of age registered in April 2023 was 65, down 15 from March 2023.
The main causes of death in April 2023 were circulatory diseases (10,774 persons, accounting for 54.9% of the month’s death toll), tumours (3,573 persons, accounting for 18.2% of the month’s total) and diseases of the respiratory system (1,862 persons, accounting for 9.5% of the month’s total).
INS data show that the number of live births registered in April 2023 was 2,853 fewer than in the same month in 2022.
