Romania’s national team started with a win at the European Women’s U-17 Handball Championship in Podgorica (Montenegro), 40-27 (23-15) against North Macedonia on Thursday in Group D, write Agerpres.
The top scorers for the Romanian team were Maria Emilia Rogoz, Teodora Lavinia Damian and Gabriela Maria Tulea, with 6 goals each. Alexia Maria Nita, Anamaria Serban, Maria Ionica Soroceanu scored 4 goals each, Ana Martina Stan 3, Mioara Bianca Ciubotaru, Enryka Valentina Bodijar, 2 each, Maria Alexandra Voicu, Malina Maria Avadanei, Ana Maria Gavrila, 1 goal each.
Goalkeeper Ioana Nita defended 13 shots, finishing with an excellent percentage (43.33%).
Iva Mladenovska scored 10 goals for the losers.
In the other group match, France defeated Hungary 33-28.
On Friday, Romania will face France (16:45) and Hungary will play against North Macedonia (14:30).
The first two ranked teams qualify for the main groups.
