The Biden administration will withhold $130 million in security aid from Egypt over the concerns regarding the respect of human rights in this country, an area in which limited progress has been registered, according to AFP, Agerpres read.
Yet the Biden administration will release a separate tranche of $75 million because of Cairo’s steps to free political prisoners.
„Our approach reflects the administration’s concerns about human rights and fundamental rights in Egypt, while seeking to maintain the engagement and dialogue we have been striving to have for 20 months to achieve further progress in this domain”, a senior official of the US State Department said under the protection of anonymity.
